Three hours north along the Atlantic, past argan groves and goats in the trees, to a walled port town that feels nothing like Agadir. Essaouira is all whitewash and blue shutters, wind, gulls and the smell of the fish grills on the quay. There is time for the ramparts, the medina, the woodcarvers' workshops and lunch by the harbour before the drive back.
