Taroudant is sometimes called little Marrakech, and its six kilometres of red earthen ramparts, unhurried souks and open squares make the comparison easy to understand. In the afternoon you continue to Tiout, where a hilltop kasbah looks out over one of the largest palm oases in the Souss valley. It is a full day, and one of the best ways to see how the region lived long before the coast was built up.
